Self Control- การควบคุมตนเอง

It is better to have self-control than to conquer a city (Proverbs 16:32, NLT).

Dear Friends,

Some years ago, a young man emerged as a powerful evangelistic preacher. He was handsome, intelligent, and so exceptional that he was even courted by Hollywood.

After one eloquent sermon, he was described by the press as "the greatest preacher since the apostle Paul."

Ten years later, however, the young man was found dying of cirrhosis of the liver, too weak to continue supporting himself as he had been by selling trucks at a local dealership. Sadly, alcohol and financial irresponsibility were blamed for taking his life just days later.

Clifford lacked one essential quality necessary for sustained leadership: self-control. And it is the lack of self-control that frequently renders a disciple of Christ spiritually impotent and fruitless.

I once counseled and prayed with a husband and wife who were struggling with a problem of self-control in the area of overeating. Because of their overweight, they had lost self-confidence and were plagued with guilt. As a result, their witness for Christ was greatly hindered.

Then one day, while reading the Scriptures, they realized that their bodies were the temple of the Holy Spirit and that they were actually dishonoring the Lord by their lack of self-control.

In a spirit of brokenness, they prayed, "O, God, please help us. We have tried and failed again and again. Now you must help us. We invite you to control our appetites. Help us to be more careful in choosing the kind and quantity of food we eat."

In answer to their prayers of faith, God enabled them to discipline themselves. In time they slimmed down. Their self-confidence returned, and they again became bold witnesses for our Lord.

After counseling with thousands of people through the years, I am convinced that an undisciplined Christian cannot be an effective witness for Christ.
Do you lack self-control in some area of your life? 

You may not have a problem with alcohol or overeating, but you may be struggling with a critical spirit, with lustful thoughts, addiction to pornography, a feeling of defeat, an uncontrollable temper, or something else. 

Take it to the Lord in prayer. Ask for His help. Believe Him for the answer that you know is His will, according to 1 John 5:14-15: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us -- whatever we ask -- we know that we have what we asked of him" (NIV).

God says, "It is better to have self-control than to control an army" (Proverbs 15:32, TLB).

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it (Ephesians 2:9, NLT).

There was a famous actor who died. Several weeks before his death, he appeared on a national television show and was asked, "Is there anything you are afraid of?"

"I guess I'm afraid I won't please God," the actor replied. "I would like to think I've done good things and have been a good person because I want to go to Heaven. But I'm not sure I'm going to Heaven."

Like this actor, millions of people are hoping that their good works will get them into Heaven. But salvation is a gift of God's love and grace -- no amount of good works can earn His favor.

Most false religions and cults have one common ingredient. They teach that one has to earn his salvation by "being good" and performing good works, especially works that promulgate that religion or cult.

But God's Word describes such works as "dead works" (Hebrews 6:1, KJV) and proclaims a radically different message: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV). Of course, although salvation is a gift of God which we receive by faith, we demonstrate our salvation by our works and good deeds.

There is nothing a person can do to save himself. Only God can save us, and that salvation is available only through the shed blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All other so-called routes to heaven are minus that one essential ingredient. All human effort is dead works, daring to presume that measly human effort can qualify us for eternity in the presence of the holy, perfect and pure Creator and Father.

The actor above could have even been a Christian because, according to many surveys, half of the church members across the United States, 120 million or so who will be in church Sunday, do not have assurance of salvation and 95 percent do not understand the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

A pastor came to one of our pastor's seminars and I gave him those statistics. He said, with a bit of impatience, "I don't believe those statistics. I know they wouldn't be true in my church."

I said, "Why don't you take your own survey?"

He agreed to do so. He went home and later came to see me and said, "You know, I have a church with fifteen hundred members. I've been the pastor there for fifteen years. I took my survey and I was amazed that 75 percent of my members were not sure of their salvation and almost no one knew about the ministry of the Holy Spirit."

Needless to say, the next two Sundays he preached on both, with a tremendous, positive response from his congregation.

หมายสำคัญและการอัศจรรย์ช่วยให้คนรับความรอดจริงหรือ- Sign and wonders

ยอห์น 6.1-65

พระเยซูตรัสกับเขาว่า “เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า ท่านทั้งหลายตามหาเรามิใช่เพราะได้เห็นหมายสำคัญ แต่เพราะได้กินขนมปังอิ่ม” (ยอห์น 6.26)

หลังจากที่พระเยซูได้ทรงทำการอัศจรรย์เลี้ยงคนห้าพันคนด้วยขนมปังห้าก้อนกับปลาสองตัวแล้ว พระองค์ได้พาสาวกข้ามทะเลสาบไป แต่ประชาชนจำนวนมากที่ได้ลิ้มชิมรสอาหารจากสวรรค์แล้วนั้นได้พากันเดินลงเรือไปดักรอพบพระองค์ที่อีกฟากฝั่งหนึ่ง

เมื่อพบพระองค์แล้ว พวกเขาทำทีเป็นเหมือนบังเอิญที่ได้พบกับพระองค์ที่นั่น ทักทายพระองค์ทำนองว่า “เอ๊ะ พระอาจารย์มาที่นี่ด้วยหรือ มาตั้งแต่เมื่อไหร่” (ข้อ 25) การมีเจตนาบางอย่างแอบแฝงซ่อนเร้น ทำให้พวกเขาต้องเสแสร้งออกไปอย่างนั้น แต่ความในใจของพวกเขาไม่อาจซ่อนเร้นจากพระเยซูได้เลย พระองค์เปิดโปงเจตนาของพวกเขาในทันที

ถ้อยคำของพระองค์แสดงถึงความผิดหวังอย่างยิ่ง “พวกท่านตามหาเรามิใช่เพราะเห็นหมายสำคัญ แต่เพราะได้กินขนมปังอิ่ม (หรืออยากกินขนมปังอีก)” (ข้อ 26)

พระเยซูทรงแยกแยะระหว่าง การมีประสบการณ์ในการอัศจรรย์ (กินขนมปังอิ่ม) กับการ “เห็น”หมายสำคัญ...

หลายครั้ง เราอดอาหาร อธิษฐาน และคาดหวังให้เกิดการอัศจรรย์ขึ้นในการประกาศพระกิตติคุณของเรา เรามั่นใจเหลือเกินว่า “ขอเพียงพระเจ้าทำการอัศจรรย์ รับรองคนไทยทั้งประเทศมาเชื่อในพระเจ้าแน่”

แต่เชื่อว่า เราคงเคยผิดหวังเรื่องนี้มาหลายครั้งแล้ว เปล่า... ไม่ใช่ที่ไม่ได้เห็นการอัศจรรย์หรอก การอัศจรรย์เกิดขึ้นบ่อยๆ การอัศจรรย์ยังคงเกิดขึ้นได้ในทุกวันนี้ มีคำพยานในเรื่องเหล่านี้มากมาย แต่ที่ผิดหวังก็คือ ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่หายโรค และมีประสบการณ์กับอัศจรรย์ในพระเจ้าจะมาเชื่อในพระเจ้าเสมอไป

พระเยซูทรงยืนยันว่า ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่ได้เห็นการอัศจรรย์จะเห็นหมายสำคัญเสมอไป

เมื่อผมเริ่มต้นรับใช้พระเจ้าเต็มเวลาครั้งแรกนั้น เป็นช่วงที่นักเทศน์รักษาโรคท่านหนึ่งขึ้นไปทำการที่สนามกีฬาเทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ มีการอัศจรรย์และการรักษาโรคเกิดขึ้นมากมาย คริสตจักรของเราได้รับแบ่งรายชื่อผู้เชื่อใหม่มาหลายร้อยคน ผมจึงอาสาที่จะออกไปติดตามผลผู้เชื่อใหม่เหล่านั้นในอำเภอชนบทแห่งหนึ่ง ไม่ไกลจากตัวเมืองมากนัก

มีคุณยายคนหนึ่งที่ระบุในบัตรตัดสินใจว่า หายจากอาการอัมพาต เดินไม่ได้มาหลายปี ดูตามที่อยู่ที่แจ้งไว้ คุณยายมีบ้านอยู่ใกล้ๆ ตลาดในตัวอำเภอ ผมขี่มอเตอร์ไซค์ออกไปตามอยู่สองวันจึงเจอบางคนที่รู้จักคุณยายคนนี้ คนข้างบ้านยืนยันว่าคุณยายหายอัมพาตจริง แต่ตอนนี้คุณยายไม่อยู่บ้าน

ผมถามว่า ท่านไปที่ไหน? เพื่อนบ้านตอบว่า คุณยายไปฟังเทศน์และทำบุญ เพราะไม่ได้ไปวัดมานานแล้วเนื่องจากเป็นอัมพาต เมื่อหลายอาทิตย์ก่อนได้ยินว่าไปให้หมอฝรั่งรักษาโรคที่สนามกีฬาฯ พอหายแล้วจึงดีใจมาก ได้ไปวัดเสียที

ผมก็ได้แต่งง ไม่เข้าใจว่าทำไมคนที่หายโรคโดยพระนามของพระเยซูแล้ว กลับมองไม่เห็นความสำคัญของพระองค์เลย ทำไมการอัศจรรย์ใหญ่หลวงอย่างนั้น กลับไม่สามารถหันจิตใจของคนออกจากรูปเคารพมาสู่พระเจ้าผู้ทรงพระชนม์ได้เลย?

คำตอบก็คือ ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่เห็นการอัศจรรย์ จะเห็นหมายสำคัญเสมอไป

การอัศจรรย์กับหมายสำคัญ แตกต่างกันอย่างไร?

หมายสำคัญ ตามแนวคิดของพระคัมภีร์นั้น หมายถึง การอัศจรรย์ที่เป็นเครื่องหมายบ่งชี้ถึงสัจธรรมที่สำคัญบางอย่าง

นั่นคือ พระเจ้าทรงสำแดงฤทธิ์เดชและการอัศจรรย์ก็เพื่อจะชี้ให้คนเราเห็นความจริงที่สำคัญฝ่ายวิญญาณบางอย่างนั่นเอง

การที่พระเยซูรักษาคนตาบอด ก็เพื่อจะบ่งชี้ว่า พระองค์ทรงเป็นความสว่างของโลก

เมื่อพระองค์ทรงรักษาโรค ทำให้คนโรคเรื้อนหายสะอาด ก็เพื่อจะสำแดงให้คนทั้งหลายได้เห็นว่า พระองค์ทรงสามารถหอบเอาความบาปของเราไปได้ เป็นพระผู้ช่วยเราให้รอดจากบาป

พระองค์ทรงทำให้ลาซารัสและคนอื่นๆ เป็นขึ้นมาจากความตายก็เพื่อเป็นเครื่องหมายบ่งชี้ถึงสัจธรรมที่ว่า “เราเป็นเหตุให้คนปวงเป็นขึ้นและมีชีวิต”... พระองค์ทรงเป็นชีวิตนิรันดร์นั่นเอง

พระเยซูทรงเลี้ยงอาหารจากสวรรค์แก่คนเหล่านั้น ก็เพื่อจะบ่งบอกว่า พระองค์ทรงเป็นอาหารแห่งชีวิต ผู้ที่กินเนื้อและดื่มโลหิตของพระองค์จะมีชีวิต (ข้อ 50-55)

หลายคนยังมีเศษขนมปังและเนื้อปลาติดฟันอยู่ แต่ก็ไม่เคยมองเห็นสัจธรรมที่พระเยซูพยายามจะสำแดงผ่านทางการอัศจรรย์ในครั้งนั้น สำหรับพวกเขาแล้ว นั่นเป็นประสบการณ์สุดยอด.. น่าตื่นเต้น.. อร่อย.. และมันส์.. คนที่กระทำอิทธิฤทธิ์อย่างนี้ได้ต้องถือเป็นยอดคน สมควรแต่งตั้งเป็นกษัตริย์ เป็นผู้นำ เพื่อจะเลี้ยงพวกเขาด้วยอาหารวิเศษเช่นนี้ตลอดไป (ข้อ 15,

...เขาทั้งหลายจึงทูลพระองค์ว่า “ถ้าเช่นนั้นท่านจะกระทำหมายสำคัญอะไร เพื่อข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะเห็นและวางใจในท่าน ท่านจะกระทำอะไรบ้าง บรรพบุรุษของข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายได้กินมานาในถิ่นทุรกันดาร (เราก็อยากกินบ้าง... ได้ไหม?) (ข้อ 30-31)

พระเยซูพยายามชักนำความคิดของพวกเขาออกจากการยึดติดอยู่เพียงการอัศจรรย์ ไปสู่หมายสำคัญ

...“เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า... พระบิดาของเราประทานอาหารแท้ซึ่งมาจากสวรรค์ ให้แก่ท่านทั้งหลาย เพราะว่าอาหารของพระเจ้านั้น คือท่านที่ลงมาจากสวรรค์ และประทานชีวิตให้แก่โลก” (ข้อ 33)

แต่จิตใจของพวกเขา ก็ยังคงยึดติดอยู่กับแค่อาหารฝ่ายเนื้อหนังเท่านั้น

เขาทั้งหลายจึงทูลพระองค์ว่า “ท่านเจ้าข้า โปรดให้อาหารนั้น (ขนมปัง) แก่ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายเสมอไปเถิด” (ข้อ 34)

พระองค์ยังคงไม่ละความพยายาม

พระเยซูตรัสกับเขาว่า “เราเป็นอาหารแห่งชีวิต ผู้ที่มาหาเราจะไม่หิว และผู้ที่วางใจในเรา จะไม่กระหายอีกเลย” (ข้อ 35)

แต่... “เราได้บอกท่านทั้งหลายแล้วว่า ท่านได้เห็นเราแล้วแต่ก็ไม่เชื่อ” (ข้อ 36)

อัครทูตยอห์น กล่าวไว้ในพระกิตติคุณบทที่ 20 ข้อ 30-31 ว่า “พระเยซูได้ทรงกระทำหมายสำคัญอื่นๆ อีกหลายประการต่อหน้าสาวกเหล่านั้น ซึ่งไม่ได้บันทึกไว้ในหนังสือเล่มนี้ แต่การที่ได้บันทึกเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้ไว้ ก็เพื่อท่านทั้งหลายจะได้เชื่อว่า พระเยซูทรงเป็นพระคริสต์ พระบุตรของพระเจ้า และเมื่อมีความเชื่อแล้ว ท่านก็จะมีชีวิตโดยพระนามของพระองค์”

นั่นคือเป้าหมายจุดประสงค์สำคัญที่สุดของการกระทำหมายสำคัญ

เพื่อให้ทุกคนได้ “เห็น” ว่าพระเยซูทรงเป็นพระคริสต์ พระบุตรของพระเจ้า ซึ่งการเชื่อหรือการเห็นเช่นนั้นเอง ที่ทำให้เขาได้รับชีวิตนิรันดร์โดยพระนามของพระองค์

แต่น่าเศร้าใจที่ ไม่ใช่ทุกคนที่หายโรค ทุกคนที่ได้พบและสัมผัสกับการอัศจรรย์ จะได้ “เห็น” ว่าพระเยซูทรงเป็นพระคริสต์ พระบุตรของพระเจ้า (ทั้งๆ ที่เป็นประสบการณ์จริง) บางคนเห็นพระองค์เป็นหมอฝรั่ง บางคนเห็นพระองค์เป็นแค่ศาสดา เป็นคนดี เป็นอาจารย์ เป็นอะไรก็ตามแต่จะจินตนาการไป แต่ไม่ใช่พระคริสต์ ไม่ใช่พระบุตรของพระเจ้า ไม่ใช่พระผู้ช่วยให้รอด

น่าเสียดายที่คริสเตียนจำนวน ทั้งๆ ที่รับเชื่อพระเจ้ามานานหลายปีแล้วก็ยังคงติดอยู่ระดับของการอัศจรรย์ และไม่เคยมองทะลุไปถึงหมายสำคัญ และก้าวเข้าไปสู่การมีความสัมพันธ์กับพระคริสต์เป็นส่วนตัว

ไม่ต่างอะไรกับคนอิสราเอลในถิ่นทุรกันดาร ที่มองเห็นการอัศจรรย์ยิ่งใหญ่อยู่ทุกเมื่อเชื่อวัน ตลอดระยะเวลาสี่สิบปี แต่สุดท้ายก็พากันล้มตายไปในความไม่เชื่อจนหมดสิ้นทุกคน

บทเรียนสำหรับเราในเรื่องนี้คืออะไร? ไม่ต้องประกาศ ไม่ต้องทำการอัศจรรย์หรือ?

เปล่าเลย ให้เราทำยิ่งมากขึ้น แต่อย่ายึดติดอยู่กับการอัศจรรย์ อย่าติดตามนักเทศน์ เพราะ “ถ้าพระเจ้าไม่ได้ทรงสร้างบ้าน คนทำงานก็เหนื่อยเปล่า” ให้เราทำการของพระเจ้าด้วยการพึ่งพาในพระเจ้า อย่าไว้ใจในเนื้อหนัง และอย่าไว้ใจแม้แต่ในของประทานของเราเอง

“ไม่มีผู้ใดมาถึงเราได้นอกจากพระบิดาผู้ทรงใช้เรามา จะทรงชักนำให้เขามาและเราจะให้ผู้นั้นฟื้นขึ้นมาในวันสุดท้าย มีคำเขียนไว้ในคัมภีร์ผู้เผยพระวจนะว่า 'พระเจ้าจะทรงสั่งสอนเขาทุกคน' ทุกคนที่ได้ยินได้ฟัง และได้เรียนรู้จากพระบิดาก็มาถึงเรา” (ข้อ 44-45)
